our mission

To inspire and equip our members with design and innovation principles and mindsets that they will use meaningfully throughout their lives and careers.

The Design + Innovation Club was founded by students in 2011. The club has grown in size every year since its inception and is consistently one of the largest student groups at Yale SOM. Through our curriculum and programming – including workshops, experiential learning, and career-related activities – the club cultivates interest in design and innovation among a diverse student body. Club alumni hold positions in firms across the industry, including IDEO, frog, Google, Apple, Amazon, Innosight, and SYPartners.

Henry Elliman

Henry Elliman

Pre-SOM: Logistics and Operations at Doctors Without Borders

Summer Internship: Business Consultant with the National Park Service

Henry has pursued two parallel careers as a humanitarian aid worker and chef. In both careers, he used human-centered design principles to create and implement projects around the world. In South Sudan, as a humanitarian aid worker with Doctors Without Borders, Henry relied on inclusive collaboration to provide medical care in a volatile context. In Kolkata, India, Henry embraced radical experimentation to open the first pop-up restaurant in the city. The D+I club is the place and community where Henry has continued to bring empathy and creativity to life.

Neha Kulsh

Neha Kulsh

Pre-SOM: Creative at Clinique (The Estée Lauder Companies)

Summer Internship: Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, Innovation Team (i-team)

Before Yale, Neha spent seven years scratching her way up the corporate ladder in New York. While writing for global brands gave her a big platform and a high-energy, multidisciplinary team to bounce ideas off of, she missed her first love, local government, and the social and economic purpose that came with the work. This summer, Neha returned to her hometown to join the Los Angeles Innovation Team where she worked alongside data scientists and project managers to design outreach efforts and deliver solutions in public health and affordable housing. Though Neha loves being a student again, she sometimes longs for the political intrigue of office life.

Michelle is an MBA/MPH candidate interested in leveraging design thinking and technology to promote mental health and health equity. With a background in finance and startups, she enjoys combining data and systems analysis with human centered design and behavioral science to address challenging problems. While interning at CVS Health, she designed and launched a webinar on birth control to promote culturally competent care and access to birth control. In her first year at Yale, she was a social impact consultant for the Connecticut Mental Health Center, an organizer for the Women’s Mental Health Conference, and a co-leader for the Yale Health Services Innovation Case Competition. She received her BA in Government from Dartmouth College. Originally from Oakland, CA (Ohlone land), Michelle enjoys growing veggies, hiking, and traveling.
